Eliminating Roadblocks

How many times have you set goals, work really hard and feel like you weren’t making any progress and give up? Did you even stop to think how close you were to success? Take any goal that you didn’t reach – clean out the garage, renovate the basement, join a club to meet new people, implement a community newsletter. Take a step away and think through what made you stop.

  • Too much work, not enough time
  • No help
  • Too much research
  • No cash to spend at the moment
Reasons (or excuses really) to quit pop up all the time and sometimes so quickly that you do not even get started. Here is a sure-fire way to keep rolling through to reach your goal and be successful:

  • Write out or think about all the roadblocks while you are setting your goal.
  • Determine what you can do to overcome the obstacle right now – not when it pops up.
For example: I would like to renovate the basement but I do not have the cash or time. So I could overcome this by planning out the big renovation and then breaking it down into small affordable pieces. I could also enlist the help of others who have these talents and skills, and trade off with them for time on their next big project. I could shop thrift stores or websites to find cheap or free stuff for furnishing or even steps on how to do-it-myself. There, that has eliminated all the roadblocks I have given myself – time to get to work and plan each phase.
As humans we are really good at putting obstacles up before we even start – get them out of the way fast and move on, you’ll definitely be happier and get more done!
